Izanami is a central figure in Japanese mythology, known as the goddess of creation and death. Together with her counterpart and husband, Izanagi, she is credited with the creation of the Japanese islands and the birth of numerous deities. Izanami's role in the mythological narrative takes a dark turn when she dies giving birth to the fire god, Kagutsuchi. After her death, she descends into Yomi, the land of the dead, where she becomes a powerful and feared ruler of the underworld.
